The SBS Venture Fund Committee is pleased to announce the winners of the 2009 Venture Fund Competition: Zoombu and Altitude Medical. Congratulations to these exciting new businesses!
The Committee would also like to thank the 63 contestants who submitted their business plans, the 8 semi-finalists who visited Oxford to present, and the 4 grand finalists who pitched so professionally on the big stage.
If you didn’t enter this year, or weren’t selected for the semi-finals, please consider entering the Venture Fund in 2010 for the chance to win seed investment.
More about the grand final winners:
Zoombu
“Zoombu helps you find the best way to travel to any destination in Europe. Our proprietary search engine technology finds complete end-to-end routes including flights, ferries, trains, coaches and driving – this saves you from having to visit dozens of websites to build your itinerary. You simply select the cheapest, fastest or most carbon friendly door-to-door route from our search results.”
Altitude Medical
“Hospital-acquired infections, such as infections with the MRSA bacterium, cause millions of deaths and injuries and cost society hundreds of billions of dollars each year. Tragically, they are also largely preventable through regular hand washing. Altitude Medical’s flagship product is a door handle that sanitises the users’ hands whenever they open a door. Installed throughout a typical hospital, these devices would pay for themselves if they prevented even one infection per hospital, per year.”
